The Worst SEC Opponents of Week 5: Magical Bulldogs Statues, 'Zoro' and Weird Motivational Videos

Cupcake games: Athletics directors love the sugary sweet treats but fans despise them. So we're not going to give the teams that play them credit in our previews, instead offering a fun fact about the cupcake in question. Consider it our silent and likely futile protest

Louisiana Tech is very serious about its dogs. Like, perhaps "threatening Georgia's dominance" in the serious about its dogs category. Starting with the fact that they chose to name their mascot after a dead dog. This is quite literally true.

When the boys returned to school and related their story, the whole campus mourned the death of the homeless dog. The dog with no name had found a place in the hearts of Tech students.

They also attribute great moments in school history to a bulldog statue, given that some of those moments occurred "under the watchful eyes of the Spirit of '88." And from the appearances of at least one photograph, the statue sometimes gets a military guard. I guess you have to have something in life when your administration does things like hire Skip Holtz to coach football. Auburn 54, Louisiana Tech 13

New Mexico State at LSU, 7:30 p.m., SEC Network
There's no such problem at New Mexico State, as the Aggies' website openly mocks the school's past mascots.

New Mexico State has had it’s fair share of, well, we won’t call them icons. One, was a combination of Zoro and Speedy Gonzales; another somewhat reminiscent of the Man in the Big Yellow Hat from Curious George.

Also, they misspelled "Zorro." LSU 45, New Mexico State 7

This is a few years old but still bizarre.
