NCAA Baseball Tournament: Mississippi State 5, Virginia 3 (7) -- Rain Pushes Conclusion to Monday

Bad weather means that the end of the Charlottesville Super Regional will have to wait until 4 p.m. ET Monday

USA TODAY Sports

So, this is awkward. Don't know that we've ever had to do one of these before, at least not as a standalone post. But Mississippi State has a 5-3 lead against Virginia in the bottom of the seventh inning. And will until 4 p.m. ET Monday.

Yes, what could be the final game of the Charlottesville Super Regional, or could lead to a winner-take-all Game 3, will instead wait for Monday afternoon. If the Bulldogs go ahead and finish this off, they'll win the Super Regional and advance to Omaha, taking out what will at least be the fifth national seed to go down before the College World Series. But if the Cavaliers fight their way back into the game and win, another game between the two will start 55 minutes after the first game concludes.

Either way, Mississippi State is still in the better position going into tomorrow. All they need to do is get six more outs in this game to advance. If they can't, they still get another opportunity to dogpile if they win the second game. And if they do manage to grab one of the eight tickets to Omaha, it will have been well worth the wait.
