Year2's Week 9 Picks

Because games without predictions are less fun.

Last week: 1-5 straight up, 5-1 against the spread

Season: 59-11 straight up, 36-23-1 against the spread

This is not a misprint. I had four of last week's five big upsets pegged against the spread, but I did not have the courage to pick any of them outright. Oh well.

As always, the spreads below come from the Yahoo! pick 'em game.

Texas A&M (-17) over Vanderbilt 41-30

The list of teams over which I'd take A&M and its pathetic defense to win by 17 or more is not very long and does not include Vandy.

Alabama (-28.5) over Tennessee 32-10

It's a rivalry game, so that makes me lean towards taking the points in this one. There is real potential for Bama to run away with it, though: letdown by Tennessee after its big win a week ago, it's in Tuscaloosa, and the Tide has been crushing a lot of teams lately.

Missouri (-3) over South Carolina 35-27

I might pick South Carolina if Connor Shaw was going to be available, but he's not. Dylan Thompson is going to have trouble staying clean with Michael Sam and Kony Ealy coming after him. We'll see how Maty Mauk does against a non-depleted defensive line this week, but if his head didn't grow two sizes too big after last week, the Tigers should be in good shape.

Auburn (-24) over FAU 40-10

FAU is really bad, and as long as AU doesn't get distracted by its big win from last week a lay a giant egg, it should cover.

Ole Miss (-41.5) over Idaho 50-17

I really hate lines this big in cupcake games. You just never know how seriously the favorite it going to take it.
