Alabama got on the 2012 London Olympics medal board yesterday with a gold medal. Here's what everyone is up to today. All times listed below are Eastern.
BASKETBALL
Team USA obliterated Canada 91-48 in the women's quarterfinals. Tennessee's Candace Parker had 12 points, seen rebounds and three assists, and LSU's Sylvia Fowles had 12 points and four rebounds. LSU's Seimone Augustus had nine points, three rebounds and three assists, and Tennessee's Tameka Catchings had nine points, six rebounds and two assists.
South Carolina's Ilona Burgrova and the Czech Republic narrowly lost to France 71-68. Burgrova had 16 points, six rebounds, and three assists.
TRACK & FIELD
Men's 110m Hurdles
South Carolina's Jason Richardson (USA) was first in his heat at 13.33, and Tennessee's Aris Merritt (USA) wasalso first in his heat at 13.07. They advanced due to finish placement. Texas A&M's Wayne Davis (Trinidad & Tobago) was fourth in his heat at 13.52, but he also advanced thanks to his time. Kentucky's Mikel Thomas (Trinidad & Tobago) was fifth in his heat at 13.74 and did not advance.
The semifinals and finals are on Wednesday at 2:15 pm and 4:15 pm.
Men's Long Jump
Florida's Christian Taylor (USA) was first in his group with a best mark of 17.21m. Auburn's Leevan Sands (Bahamas) was second in his group with a distance of 17.17m. Florida's Will Claye (USA) was fourth in his group at 16.87m. All advanced to the finals.
The medal round is Thursday at 2:20 pm.
Men's 200m
Arkansas's Wallace Spearmon, Jr. (USA) was second in his heat at 20.47, and Ole Miss's Isiah Young (USA) was third in his heat at 20.55. Both advanced to the semifinals. Arkansas's Marek Niit (Estonia) was sixth in his heat at 20.82, and Kentucky's Rondel Sorrillo (Trinidad & Tobago) was fifth in his heat at 20.55. Neither advanced.
The semifinals are at 3:10 pm on Wednesday, and the finals are Thursday at 3:55 pm.
Women's Long Jump
Florida's Shara Proctor (Great Britain) was first in the qualifiers at 6.83m, and Ole Miss's Brittney Reese (USA) was sixth at 6.57m. Both advanced to the medal round.
The finals are Wednesday at 3:05 pm.
Women's 100m Hurdles
LSU's Lolo Jones (USA) was third in her heat at 12.71, putting her in the finals. Arkansas's Ivanique Kemp (Bahamas) was eighth in her heat at 13.56. She did not advance.
Jones was fourth in the finals at 12.58.
Women's 200m
Arkansas's Veronica Campbell-Brown (Jamaica) was first in her heat at 22.32, and LSU's Semoy Hackett (Trinidad & Tobago) was third in her heat at 22.55. Both moved on to the next round.
The medal round is Wednesday at 4:00 pm.
