Ever wished that college football could have a Hall of Fame without all the stupid rules? You're in luck. Because SB Nation has basically decided to do our own Hall of Fame. Like most of what we do at SB Nation, it will put a fan twist on the way the "professionals" do it. Here's how it will work as far as Team Speed Kill is concerned.
We are allowed to nominate five players or coaches from 10 categories: QB, RB, WR, TE, OL, DL, LB, DB, ST, Coach. No more than one nominee can come from each category. We're also strongly encouraged to have at least one of our nominees come from a non-AQ team, and four come from the SEC (natch).
Eligibility: For players or inactive coaches, the nominee should have been out of college for four full years. So the first class would cover 1962 to players and coaches who finished their career by 2007 (bowls of January 2008). The other option for active coaches OR coaches who haven't been inactive for four years is that they were at their current position for at least five seasons. (Position, NOT school.) We're also asking that each player be initially nominated by someone who saw them play or coach, either in person or on television.
So here's the plan: Myself and Year2 will choose two SEC nominees on our own, as well as the non-AQ nominee. The other two will be chosen by you from a list of nominees that all of us come up with.
That's where your first part of this process comes in. Post a comment with the name of one player or coach in it. If your nominee has already been mentioned (or you want to nominate one person but also like some others), hit the recommend button on the comment with that player or coach's name. (If you hit "Actions," it should bring up a couple of options -- click the one with the star and "Rec.") And to avoid any questions -- yes, this was completely stolen from California Golden Blogs.
The two nominees by recommendations who aren't going to be nominated by Year2 and I will automatically be a part of the reader poll we'll run later this week, with the top two vote-getters getting the other two nominations. And we'll closely consult the rest of the recommendations when coming up with the ballot. Go.
