A Word on the Arkansas 10-Win Thing

I don't want to spend too much time on this right now, particularly with the tragic news coming out of Arkansas, but I do feel like we should just have something to explain the deal I made with Arkansas fans and why it had to fall on this week.

First of all, this blog has a general rule about not supporting one team over another in conference games, and that has not changed. Sure, Year2 and I have our teams and make no secret about that fact. But as far as an editorial stance in favor of one team over another, we don't do that.

For those who might not be aware, though, I was not as high on the Razorbacks as a lot of people were coming into the season. (Yeah, I feel pretty stupid about that right about now.) To show just how sure I felt about my stance, I then wrote:

So I'll say this. If Arkansas wins 10 games in the regular season, I will change the banner at the top of the page to "Woo Pig Sooie" for the week following the 10th win and sign all of my posts for that week with "Woo Pig Sooie."

I obviously had no way of knowing that Arkansas-LSU would end up being one of the most important games of the college football season. And I really couldn't have known that Arkansas would wrap up its 10th win the Saturday before one of the most important games of the college football season.

So I'm having to balance two competing interests here, and I've tried to strike a balance between what Arkansas fans have a right to expect while respecting the fact that we have a lot of LSU fans who might be upset at seeing the blog appear to cheer for a particular team in this weekend's game.

That's why the banner is not just "Woo Pig Sooie" and why I'm going to link to this post every time I write it. (Which just kind of magnifies the whole thing, in my mind, but we'll see how Arkansas fans feel about that.) I hope this clears things up for anyone who isn't aware.

Oh, and Woo Pig Sooie.
