Southern Cal Will Change Athletic Directors, Return Reggie Bush's Heisman, Take Him Off Speed Dial

Southern Cal has decided to replace Athletics Director Mike Garrett with former QB Pat Haden, according to a letter from president-elect C.L. Max Nikias. But that was only part of the letter. Then came this bombshell:

The Trojan family honors and respects the [Southern Cal] sporting careers of those persons whose actions did not compromise their athletic program or the opportunities of future [Southern Cal] student-athletes. Accordingly, I have instructed the senior vice president for administration to remove athletic jerseys and murals displayed in recognition of O.J. Mayo and Reggie Bush by mid-August -- before the incoming class of students moves on campus -- from Heritage Hall, the Galen Center and the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. The university will also return Mr. Bush's 2005 Heisman Trophy to the Heisman Trophy Trust in August.

Reggie Bush will essentially be wiped out of Southern Cal's institutional history.

Of course, Bush keeps his copy of the Heisman, at least until the Heisman Trust decides whether it wants to revoke the award. And I'm sure he and Mayo will be crushed to find out that their jerseys and murals are going to be taken down.

As far as Southern Cal's official record is concerned, Reggie Bush no longer exists.
