Live-blogging Dan Mullen

4:20 p.m. ET Dan Mullen pretends to be Twittering that he's on the stage. I think. Maybe not.

4:27 p.m. ET Mullen is far more kinetic than Meyer tends to be. Maybe he's just nervous.

4:28 p.m. ET "Can't wait to get this going." Couldn't tell. First game is the first time a SWAC school (Jackson State) is playing an SEC school. "We're excited to be a part of such a historic game." Because even Mississippi State can win that game.

4:29 p.m. ET "Multiple spread offense." Spread the field, get good matchups, other mayo comments about the spread. "We could run it with three backs and two receivers." Uses 60 percent of playbook each year that best applies to personnel.

4:31 p.m. ET Quarterback battle will go on as long as necessary to find the right guy. "It might be Week 4 for us." Okay, but the Bulldogs are going to look weird playing the first three weeks without a quarterback.

4:35 p.m. ET Mullen will run special teams. Since those were the most productive plays from scrimmage for Mississippi State the last few years, why not?

4:39 p.m. ET "I'm the only undefeated coach in the league." I suppose if you count all head coaching experience. If you only count SEC, Lane Kiffin and Gene Chizik are also there.

4:41 p.m. ET "We really need Tyson Lee to step up for us." That could be a problem.

4:45 p.m. ET Goal each year is to get to Atlanta. Well, the Peach Bowl might be a little high for 2009 but in the future ... oh, you mean the SEC Championship. I see.

4:48 p.m. ET Dan Mullen voted for Tim Tebow. He also speaks about Tebow as someone "you spend more time with him than your wife -- which I did." Interpret as you will.

4:54 p.m. ET Mullen on the Florida game: "I know he knows me pretty well and I know him pretty well."

4:55 p.m. ET Doesn't know of weakness in Tebow's game -- and the Golden Tebow tries to make himself better, Mullen says. Off-field dirt? "I probably have more respect for him than anybody else I've ever met." His voice is literally trembling with emotion. And it takes him a moment to recover on the next question.
