SEC commish Mike Slive said SEC/ESPN press conference to announce SEC Network will be May 2 in Atlanta

From Brett McMurphy I have a feeling a delay this long (from April 16) has less to do with allowing enough time to pass from the awful events in Boston that postponed it in the first place and more to do with find a day that all of the VIPs could reschedule to. More than enough time has passed now, but many who will attend are busy people.

I love my players. I appreciate their hard work and investment in our program. I feel a responsibility and loyalty to protect and stand up for them. Also, I feel it is important to educate them on all areas of life. While my intentions were genuine, I feel it was unfortunate that things escalated to a confrontation. These actions were not representative of what this institution stands for. However, I will use it as a learning experience for myself as well as my players so that we all become better men.

Todd Grantham comments publicly on Saturday night's incident. I wish some combination of Mike Slive, Greg McGarity, and Mark Richt hadn't put Coach Grantham in the position of having to make such a statement, but I'm glad he made sure to say he was sticking up for his players, which he was. For the record, the only statement made by James Franklin of which I am aware is this one: "Some things got a little bit out of hand. I know myself, and I don't want to speak for Coach Richt, I like the game to end a little bit differently. Walk off the field and move forward." That sounds really nice, except he's the one who came onto the field and started pointing at players and calling out to them; he's the one who made the postgame handshake confrontational. He doesn't know whether Coach Richt wishes the game had ended a bit differently? Was he paying attention to the classy way Coach Richt handled his berating during the postgame handshake? James Franklin is an arrogant, whiny, hypocritical jackleg, and, for what it's worth, the most lopsided final score in Georgia-Vanderbilt series history is 47-0. Let's shoot for 48-0 next year between the hedges. Go 'Dawgs!

"In other words, it’s more than just the question of over-signing or grayshirting," Slive said. "It’s a question of over-signing, grayshirting, early admissions, summer school admission. We’ve put together what we call a bit of a package to address these issues, that will give our people a chance to think about these issues in a more global fashion. So then it will be an important discussion item in Destin."

Slive to introduce legislation on oversigning and roster management SEC commissioner Mike Slive will introduce some sort of legislation regarding the practices of oversigning and roster management at this year's SEC meetings in Destin. He's not saying what his proposal will consist of yet, and it's worth noting that he can't enact rules on his own. The member institutions will vote on his measure at the meetings.

My source tells me we haven't been given a deadline yet, but we will make a decision by the end of next week. We can't have an official Board of Regents meeting without posting the meeting 72 hours ahead of time. The Board will have decided what they are going to decide by Tuesday, and it will be officially announced by Friday.

The above assessment comes from a longtime family friend, native Texan, and Texas A&M alum with longstanding ties to the institution in College Station. Evidently, Mike Slive's reported presence there today was for the purpose of reassuring board members that they should not opt for the Pac-16 merely out of fear that a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. With Larry Scott hand-delivering invitations to the Big 12 South (sans Baylor), the SEC commissioner was there to make it clear that the Southeastern Conference is one of the Aggies' options. The more I read and the more I hear, the more convinced I become that Texas A&M will become the thirteenth member of the SEC within a week. Go 'Dawgs!

Latest in A&M's SEC/Pac-10 decision: SEC commissioner Mike Slive in College Station today...more to come

I don't know Billy Liucci from Adam's housecat, so I can't validate this in the slightest, but here's what he had to say, for whatever it's worth. Go 'Dawgs!

A high-placed SEC source told Sporting News on Thursday that the league will likely only expand with Texas and Texas A&M.

Matt Hayes makes maybe the dumbest observation ever. The Longhorns are completely off the board where the SEC is concerned, and they probably never were on the board in the first place. There is too much evidence of Mike Slive's acumen for any serious person to believe the SEC commissioner would be dumb enough to give up the fertile recruiting grounds of the Lone Star State and the Houston media market because he could only get one of the two teams that can deliver those prizes. Refusing to take Texas A&M because we couldn't get Texas would be cutting off our noses to spite our faces in a big, and uncommonly stupid, way. The link to the above nonsense appeared in a Team Speed Kills roundup along with this link to a piece by the much more credible Kirk Bohls, who reports that multiple sources confirm Texas A&M's ongoing consideration of an offer to join the SEC. Go 'Dawgs!

I wish [Lane Kiffin] well, I really do - as long as he's in California... So we were very pleased to see Mike Hamilton make that appointment. I was very pleased with the positive reception that [Derek Dooley] received from Tennessee and the fans. And obviously, like any new coach he has his work cut out for him. I think his appointment is good for Tennessee and good for the SEC.

Mike Slive likes Tennessee's new hire, don't you think? He sounds tired of playing quote police and doesn't anticipate Dooley stirring anything up. (H/T EDSBS)
