He knows he can't go beyond this year now, so he's going to retire rather than be pushed out. Of course, nothing is stopping Penn State from pushing him out now for his inaction regarding Jerry Sandusky. Then again, the people who would do the pushing (the AD and president) are in worse shape right now. UPDATE Paterno has issued a statement.
