Bret Bielema Didn't Take a Shot at Gus Malzahn

+

Twitter is an imperfect medium, especially for communicating the rambling thoughts of a coach during his weekly press conference. Which is how you sometimes get a quote that burns up the Interwebs...

Coaches Read Mean Tweets

+

Saban, Hoke, Muschamp, and Mullen read mean tweets about themselves. This is GOLD.

About Those Vanderbilt Jerseys ...

2

As it turns out, they really were illegal and should have resulted in Vanderbilt losing a timeout per quarter. Given the results of Thursday night's game, one would assume this is an academic point, as the odds that the Commodores wear the same jerseys again are probably vanishingly small

Sad Spurrier Is Brutally Honest

Les Miles-ese as a Foreign Language

Miles doesn't do tight, clear or grammatically correct. That's why we love him (HT: SB Nation)

The Story of Jared Lorenzen

Jared Lorenzen is one of the more memorable SEC players, and his story is one that's worth hearing.

Missouri Faulted in OTL Story on Sexual Assault

+

Warning: Some of the details in this story are disturbing. It deals with incidents involving Derrick Washington when Missouri was still in the Big 12. Missouri Chancellor R. Bowen Loftin says the university has already "instituted sweeping changes" to how it handles these cases.

Gene Chizik is Joining the SEC Network

+

Eh, whatever. Wake me up when they get Jackie Sherrill.

The SEC's Logo is Brilliant

1

So says a sociologist who studies logos. I was noticing just the other day how much it stands out for its simplicity among the other conferences' logos when looking at a College Football Playoff web page.

Alabama. Don't even pretend you thought it was going to anyone else.

SEC Network Releases Details About First-Day Programming

+

Looks like it will have a lot of good stuff and a few of the mainstays of ESPN programming. ("Auburn offensive lineman Shon Coleman was sidelined in 2011 and 2012 while fighting leukemia. Coleman returned last September and is battling for the starting left tackle position vacated by Greg Robinson, the No. 2 overall pick in last year's NFL Draft." Cue soft-focus lenses.) Plus, there will be reports from all 14 SEC campuses -- including Rece Davis from Auburn. Yes, Rece Davis, Alabama alum and one of the only people who can troll and entertain at the same time, will be on air live from the Greater Opelika Metropolitan Area. That is appointment viewing, ladies and gentlemen. We'll also get to see how much Will Muschamp screams during a walkthrough. Good times.

Highlighting this schedule is the matchup between the Florida Gators and the Kansas Jayhawks at historic Phog Allen Fieldhouse on December 5, 2014. That night also features a collision between Kentucky and Texas in Austin, Texas. (Via)

It's just as rubberneckingly good as it sounds.

Would you let Les Miles hold your child?

Just sayin'.

NCAA Lost O'Bannon Trial

+

The NCAA lost the Ed O'Bannon trial. The ruling says that the NCAA's rules prohibiting athletes from earning any money off of their names, images, and likenesses is a violation of antitrust law. It's still early and the appeals process will surely be long, but it's a big deal.

ACC, Maryland Reach Exit Fee Agreement

1

The ACC and Maryland have reached an agreement in their battle over the conference's exit fee, one of the things meant to hold the league together after the Era of Conference Realignment. Essentially, the conference gets to keep almost $31.4 million that it's already withheld from Maryland, but the Terps don't have to shell out an additional $20 million to escape to the Big Ten. The benefit for both sides is that they avoid going to court, where they could lose -- something that could destabilize the ACC if the conference lost and had to lower its exit fee (or were forced to vote on the exit fee all over again). The chances that the ACC would break apart without the exit fee was relatively small, but now those chances are practically zero. Again, the Great Conference Realignment is over.

Charter Reaches Agreement to Carry SEC Network

+

Charter Communications has signed a deal with the SEC Network now, leaving Verizon FiOS as essentially the only even somewhat major carrier without the conference channel. We're now at 91 million homes and counting for the SEC Network, with all of the deals calling for the channel to be live at launch. (Even if there are other questions about some of the services included.)

Kentucky's Matt Elam is Huge

This is a large individual I would not like to cross paths with.

SEC Coaches Anonymously Talk

1

Athlon always puts out a list of anonymous quotes from SEC coaches about the conference's schools. It's fun to see what coaches think when they're being honest, like the guy who thinks Alabama is an 8-win team on paper.
