Latest Mock Draft Has 8 SEC in First Round

+

The new slate from SBN's Mocking the Draft has eight SEC players in it. Or, seven if you don't still count DGB.

What's on the SEC Network Right Now

+
Img_2137_0_jpg

With no SEC team in tonight's national championship game for the first time in nine years, what is the conference's new network showing while Ohio State and Oregon play? An old basketball game -- Kentucky at LSU from 1994. The SEC has become a bouncy-ball league, it would seem

DISH Announces Streaming-Only ESPN Plan

2

DISH has just announced a new streaming package that includes ESPN and ESPN2 among a handful of other channels from other networks that will cost $20 per month. We'll see how the execution goes, but this is the first legal way to get the big four-letter without a traditional cable or satellite subscription. ESPN has an ESPN Player streaming-only plan of its own, but it's only available in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.

Offense: More Important to Baseball Than Success

I think I've made it relatively clear where I stand on the return of inflated offensive numbers college baseball over the last couple of years, and that the real solution to any problem is to limit...

About Those Chavis-to-A&M Rumors

+
Screen_shot_2014-12-30_at_8.59.44_pm.0

That would be Dwayne Thomas, a cornerback for LSU, if you weren't sure. It's a screenshot because I'm relatively sure it will be scrubbed at some point in the future. (It's been a banner night for LSU on social media; Malachi Dupre is also letting loose.) In any case, this seems to just about confirm the rumors about Chavis heading to Texas A&M, or at least somewhere that isn't LSU. Stay tuned.

Florida Hires Doug Nussmeier as OC

McElwain's hand-picked successor at Alabama is coming to Gainesville according to reports.

They're tearing it down to build it back up.

Big 12 Officials Will Call National Championship Game

+

It's true that the Big 12 is the one Power 5 conference without a team in the semifinals, so it's a natural pick. Still: it won't be an SEC or Pac-12 crew doing the game, so that's very good news.

Orange Bowl Will Allow Cowbells

+

It's an issue anywhere Mississippi State goes: cowbells. The Orange Bowl will allow them, which is good news for the Bulldog faithful.

People Really Care About Johnny Manziel

+

Johnny Football is still a hot topic, even as he toils away in Cleveland.

SEC Coaches' Awards for 2014 Season Announced

1

There are no real surprises here -- for example, Amari Cooper is the Offensive Player of the Year (well, duh). One of the few contests that could have gone more than one way was Coach of the Year, which went to Gary Pinkel. That's probably the right choice. Whatever you might think of Missouri's improbable SEC East title, it was a heck of a coaching job to get the Tigers to Atlanta for the second straight year.

Tennessee Announces Extension for Butch Jones

+

There was some speculation out there that Michigan native and former Central Michigan head coach Butch Jones would be in the running for the Michigan Wolverines' opening. Not anymore, if he ever was.

Texas A&M vs. West Virginia in Liberty, per Liucci

1

ALL THE POINTS, if true

ESPN: South Carolina vs. Miami in Independence Bowl

+

Brett McMurphy appears to have the best sources in the business: South Carolina will go to Shreveport (ugh) to take on Miami (FL), one of the ACC teams the Gamecocks haven't played much

ESPN: Georgia to Play Louisville in Belk Bowl

+

Another SEC opponent for Bobby Petrino; this time, it's Mark Richt's Georgia Bulldogs

Badgers and Tigers in Outback, According to Report

+

Auburn vs. Wisconsin should be a pretty physical game. It will be interesting to see which Auburn shows up and which Wisconsin shows up

Report: LSU to Play Notre Dame in Music City Bowl

+

That one's a little bit of a surprise, but an interesting match-up for the Bayou Bengals. Notre Dame gets to take one of the ACC's bowl berths if they're within one win. That also confirms that the TaxSlayer will have a B1G opponent

Doesn't Look Like Speculation Anymore: Mizzou to Citrus

+

Report: Missouri Headed to Citrus Bowl against B1G Opponent

+

The likely opponent is Minnesota

SEC Championship Game Staying in Atlanta

+

As the AJC notes, the only thing that's possibly notable about this deal is the 10-year length of it. The Georgia Dome is going to be taken down, so that's not an option, and there aren't many other centrally-located stadiums capable of handling the game. Some SEC West fans are probably not thrilled with this, but the game will be in Atlanta for a while.

Yes, Bret Bielema's Aware of the Rumors

1

No, he doesn't appear to be putting too much stock in them

Report: Muschamp Has Several Offers

+

Jay G. Tate of AuburnUndercover.com is reporting that Will Muschamp has an offer to become the new defensive coordinator at Auburn. He reports as well, though, that Muschamp has an offer from Texas A&M and "provisional offers" from at least two NFL programs.

Is the SEC Over?

24

For the first time in four seasons, the SEC won't have four 11-win teams. It very easily could have only one. Alabama is 11-1. Missouri and Mississippi State are 10-2.

The best running backs in the FBS play in the Big Ten. The best quarterbacks are in the Pac-12. So are the best defensive linemen. The ACC skunked you 4-0 last Saturday. The Big 12 is the only conference with a chance of putting two teams in the playoff. ...

The league spent the season beating up one another. Parity can be a wonderful thing. The NFL wouldn't exist without it. But parity is another word for pretty good, and pretty good is a saddle that hasn't weighed the SEC down in a while.

Ivan Maisel

We'll deal with this more fully after the bowl season, but since the topic is already coming up, what say you? Is the conference supremacy argument gone for a while? Or is everyone overreacting to one bad weekend?

Report: Freeze Mulling Offers from Florida, Ole Miss

+

SBN's Steven Godfrey is reporting that the Rebels head coach is weighing competing offers from Florida and Ole Miss. UPDATE Florida's athletics department issued two tweets this morning (1, 2) denying that any offer has been made.

Auburn Fires Ellis Johnson

1

Auburn has fired Ellis Johnson following a horrid defensive performance in the Iron Bowl. The AU defense regressed considerably from last year, and the Tigers will have competition on the market from Texas A&M (who fired Mark Snyder not long ago).
