NCAA Baseball Tournament: Ole Miss 8, Binghamton 4 -- This Time, the Big Inning is the Rebels' Friend

Rich Schultz

Ole Miss scored four in the eighth to give themselves another day in the NCAA baseball tournament

On Friday, Ole Miss was one of several SEC teams who gave up big innings and found themselves on the brink of elimination from the NCAA baseball tournament. On Saturday, Ole Miss got its own big inning against Binghamton to power an 8-4 win, giving the Rebels at least one more day in the college baseball playoffs.

The big inning for Ole Miss came in the eighth, when the Rebels put four runs on the board via two hits, an error and three walks, two of them intentional. That stretched the Rebels' lead to 8-2, insurance runs that would prove relatively important when the Bearcats scored twice in the bottom of the inning to put a little bit of suspense back into the game.

The win goes to Bobby Wahl, who scattered eight hits over seven innings and allowed two earned runs. He also allowed the Rebels to continue in their quest for Omaha, though they will now need three straight wins to make it to the super regionals. Of course, they needed four after the loss Friday. A few more big innings, and they might just be able to make it.
