The Tennessee Volunteers bolstered their 2018 recruiting class with the addition of quarterback Adrian Martinez.
Martinez, a four-star signal caller from Fresno, California, announced his commitment to Butch Jones and the Vols on Friday evening on his personal Twitter account:

Martinez had been pursued by quite a few Power 5 schools and was recently offered by the Oklahoma Sooners back on May 2. The Sooners recently made a run on his Crystal Ball, so much so that it was an even 50-50 split between them and the Vols. In the end though, Martinez picked Knoxville over Norman as his destination in the fall of 2018.
Adrian checks in at 6-foot-2 and currently weighs 198 pounds. He’s currently ranked 21st among his peers from the Golden State per 247Sports’ Composite Rankings. That puts him in the company of Merlin Robertson (18th, 4* OLB, undecided), Jack Tuttle (19th, 4* QB, Utah Utes commit), Justin Dedrich (20th, 4* OC, undecided) and Manuel Allen (22nd, 4* WR, Nebraska Cornhuskers commit).
Listed as a dual-threat quarterback, Martinez ranks seventh in the country among his peers at that position. That puts him around the company of Colson Yankoff (5th, 4*, Washington Huskies commit), Justin Rogers (6th, 4*, undecided) and Casey Thompson (8th, 4*, Texas Longhorns commit).
Soon-to-be junior Quinten Dormady will likely have a stranglehold of the QB position this year after a terrific performance in the spring game, but the future after Dormady is still yet to be decided. Jarrett Guarantano is likely to still be hanging around in 2018 (and still may make a push to be the starter this fall) as is incoming freshman Will McBride, a three-star dual-threat QB out of League City, Texas.
Needless to say though, Adrian Martinez is a talented signal caller who gives an immediate boost to the Vols class. Tennessee now ranks eighth in the nation and second in the SEC behind the LSU Tigers right now.
