Week 5 is in the books as the SEC season rolls on. This week featured everything from embarrassing blowouts (MIZ!) to heartbreaking, last-second losses (Go Dawgs!). As we do every week, let's take a look at who stood out with our All-SEC.
For the first time, we'll do an update of our year-to-date All-SEC team following the Week 5 results. Remember, the year-to-date team -- see the Week 1 post for a reminder -- accumulates points earned from week-to-week appearances in this (subjective) column. So don't yell at me in the comments if your favorite player has better stat totals than a guy that ranks ahead of him. That's not how this works.
Anyways, on to Week 5:
Quarterback
Name | Team | Comp. | Att. | Yds. | Comp% | TD | INT | Yds./Att. | Rush | Rush Yds. | Yds./ Rush | Rush TD | Total Yds. | Total TD
1st Team | Joshua Dobbs | Tennessee | 16 | 26 | 230 | 61.5% | 3 | 1 | 8.9 | 9 | 47 | 5.2 | 1 | 277 | 4 |
2nd Team | Jalen Hurts | Alabama | 20 | 33 | 262 | 60.6% | 2 | 0 | 7.9 | 7 | 38 | 5.4 | 0 | 300 | 2 |
Tennessee probably has no business being 5-0 at this point, but here they are. Their Hail Mary victory over Georgia was the most exciting game of the season so far, and Dobbs' play was a big reason why the Vols were able to pull another rabbit out of the hat.
Running Back
Name | Team | Att. | Yds. | Yds. / Att. | TD | Tgt. | Catch | Rec. Yds. | Rec. TD | Yds./ Catch | Yds./ Tgt. | Total Yds. | Total TD | Yds./ Touch
1st Team | Derrius Guice | LSU | 17 | 163 | 9.6 | 3 | 2 | 1 | 21 | 0 | 21.0 | 10.5 | 184 | 3 | 10.2 |
2nd Team | Eugene Brazley | Ole Miss | 13 | 124 | 9.5 | 2 | 3 | 3 | 25 | 0 | 8.3 | 8.3 | 149 | 2 | 9.3 |
Guice, filling in for an injured Leonard Fourtnette, made things look easy against Missouri, consistently running the ball down the other Tigers' throats. He's our offensive player of the week.
Wide Receiver
Name | Team | Tgt. | Catch | Catch% | Yds. | TD | Yds./ Catch | Yds./ Tgt. | Rush Att. | Rush Yds. | Yds./ Att. | Rush TD | Yds./ Scrim. | TD/ Scrim. | Yds./ Touch
1st Team | Calvin Ridley | Alabama | 17 | 11 | 64.7% | 174 | 2 | 15.8 | 10.2 | 1 | 6 | 6.0 | 0 | 180 | 2 | 15.0 |
Tony Stevens | Auburn | 4 | 4 | 80.0% | 109 | 1 | 27.3 | 27.3 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 109 |

2nd Team | Jauan Jennings | Tennessee | 4 | 3 | 57.1% | 71 | 1 | 23.7 | 17.8 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 71 | 1 | 23.7 |
Damore'ea Stringfellow | Ole Miss | 8 | 6 | 75.0% | 94 | 0 | 15.7 | 11.8 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 94 | 0 | 15.7 |
This was not the best week for SEC receivers, but Ridley's monster game helps redeem the group a bit.
Tight End
Name | Team | Tgt. | Catch | Catch% | Yds. | TD | Yds. / Catch | Yds. / Tgt.
First Team | Isaac Nauta | Georgia | 6 | 5 | 83.3% | 83 | 1 | 16.6 | 13.8 |
Second Team | Evan Engram | Ole Miss | 4 | 4 | 100% | 82 | 1 | 20.5 | 20.5 |
I'm going to go out on a limb and say Jacob Eason to Isaac Nauta is going to be a regular thing for the Dawgs over the next three years or so.
Defensive Line
Name | Team | Tackles | TFL | Sack | PD | INT | FF | TD | Havoc
First Team | Derek Barnett | Tennessee | 4 | 2.5 | 2 | 0 | 0 | 1 | 0 | 3.5 |
Marquis Haynes | Ole Miss | 5 | 2 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 1 | 0 | 3
Daeshon Hall | Texas A&M | 5 | 3.5 | 2 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 3.5
Adam Butler | Vanderbilt | 4 | 2 | 2 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 2
Second Team | Jonathan Allen | Alabama | 7 | 1 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 1 |
Carl Lawson | Auburn | 2.5 | 2 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 1 | 0 | 2
Bryan Cox | Florida | 2.5 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 1 | 0 | 2
Kendal Vickers | Tennessee | 3 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 1 |
Barnett has really turned it on the last couple weeks, manhandling the Georgia and Florida offensive lines. He was probably the biggest standout this week, but there were a lot of really nice performances around the league as well. Shoutout to Vandy's Adam Butler, who was spectacular in one of the worst games of the year so far.
Linebacker
Name | Team | Tackles | TFL | Sack | PD | INT | FF | TD | Havoc
First Team | Jarrad Davis | Florida | 12 | 0 | 0 | 3 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 3 |
Shaan Washington | Texas A&M | 9 | 2 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 1 | 0 | 3
Tim Williams | Alabama | 4 | 3 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 1 | 0 | 4
Second Team | Natrez Patrick | Georgia | 7.5 | 2.5 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 2.5 |
Zach Cunningham | Vanderbilt | 9.5 | 1.5 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 1.5
Rashaan Evans | Alabama | 4.5 | 1 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 1 | 0 | 2 |
This was really an outstanding week for SEC linebackers after a not-so-great performance in Week 4. Shaan Washington is a guy having a great season that not enough people are talking about.
Cornerback
Name | Team | Tackles | TFL | Sack | PD | INT | FF | TD | Havoc
First Team | Tre'Davious White | LSU | 2.5 | 0 | 0 | 3 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 3 |
Chris Lammons | South Carolina | 4 | 0 | 0 | 2 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 2
Second Team | Tony Bridges | Ole Miss | 3 | 1 | 0 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 2 |
Malik Foreman | Tennessee | 4 | 0 | 0 | 1 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 1 |
Tre'Davious White was awesome against Mizzou on Saturday, shutting down J'Mon Moore, who up to that point was the SEC's leading receiver.
Safety
Name | Team | Tackles | TFL | Sack | PD | INT | FF | TD | Havoc
First Team | Zedrick Woods | Ole Miss | 6 | 1.5 | 0 | 4 | 2 | 0 | 1 | 5.5 |
Maurice Smith | Georgia | 6 | 0 | 0 | 2 | 1 | 1 | 0 | 3
Second Team | Jamal Adams | LSU | 3 | 0 | 0 | 2 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 2 |
Donovan Wilson | Texas A&M | 4 | 1 | 0 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 2 |
Yes, it came against Memphis, but Woods had as big a game as any SEC defensive back has had all season. Meanwhile, Alabama transfer Maurice Smith has been a huge boon for Kirby Smart's defense, even if they lost against the Vols.
Kicker
Name | Team | Made FG | Att. FG | Long | Made XP | Att. XP | Total Pts.
First Team | Eddy Pineiro | Florida | 2 | 2 | 42 | 1 | 1 | 7 |
Second Team | Tommy Openshaw | Vanderbilt | 2 | 2 | 38 | 0 | 0 | 6 |
Kickers were the stars of Florida - Vanderbilt, which tells you all you need to know about that matchup.
Punter
Name | Team | Punt Att. | Yds. | Yds. / Att. | Long
First Team | Johnny Townsend | Florida | 7 | 363 | 51.9 | 62 |
Second Team | Grant MacGinnis | Kentucky | 6 | 268 | 44.7 | 61 |
These are the Week 5 punters.
Offensive Player of the Week
Derrius Guice, running back, LSU
Defensive Player of the Week
Dedrick Woods, safety, Ole Miss
And finally, our first year-to-date update for All-SEC. There's beginning to be a little bit of separation at most positions, but it's still early, so your favorite player may well be just a week away from popping up on this list.
