College Football Rankings: Auburn Takes Second; SEC Places Seven Teams in Both Polls

Scott Cunningham

The coaches put the Tigers on track for the national championship game while putting Georgia back in the Top 25 to give the SEC seven teams there

Because this is the final week of the BCS Standings and such, we're going to go out of order and consider the coaches poll first. But I still wouldn't expect anything sensible, like the coaches putting Central Florida ahead of Loui--

HEY! HEY! LOOK AT THAT! It doesn't make any sense for the coaches to actually do it this week, given that Louisville beat a formerly 9-2 Cincinnati team by seven points while UCF beat a formerly 5-6 SMU team by four points, but whatever works. They finally got that right.

Georgia gets back into the Top 25 this week, the latest in a series of back-and-forth bounces, giving the SEC seven teams in the rankings. Mizzou manages to remain in the Top 10, giving the SEC four teams there, but the conference now "only" has two teams in the Top 5. Only. And South Carolina falls one spot because ... of bad hygiene? I don't know.

Elsewhere, the losers fall and the winners zip up the ballot. Basically what you would expect. AP?

Georgia was already in this poll last week, so the SEC is holding on to seven places. And, and look at that -- either a few voters selected North Dakota State or someone voted them 22nd. Adorable. Most of the SEC teams are in the same position in the AP poll that they are in the coaches poll -- A&M and Georgia are a spot higher, but that's about it. But South Carolina doesn't drop for not playing, so that's nice.

Without the Harris poll and the computers, it's impossible to say where everyone will end up in the BCS Standings, but it seems pretty safe to say what it already seemed pretty safe to say: Auburn is going to the BCS Championship Game. There's nothing in these numbers that indicate a surprise.
