Alabama Crimson Tide 45, Tennessee Volunteers 10: Alabama's Latest Virtuoso Performance

John David Mercer-USA TODAY Spor

It's getting harder and harder to tell one Alabama win from another. The easy win against Tennessee is a part of that pattern

What do you even say about Alabama any more? Really -- what could anyone possibly say that would add anything to our understanding of the winning machine that Nick Saban has constructed in Tuscaloosa?

Sure, Saban loses every once in a while, but most of the games that the Tide plays are like Saturday's against Tennessee: Solid quarterback play (A.J. McCarron was 19-of-27 for 275 yards and two touchdowns), a powerful running game (204 yards and three touchdowns on 37 carries) and strong defense (allowing 322 yards to Tennessee). You look at a 35-point beatdown of a conference foe and kind of shrugh.

There were some positive signs for Tennessee in this game, too. Quarterback Joshua Dobbs wasn't great, but he looked promising for a freshman who got thrown into a game against Alabama for his first college snaps. And Marquez North, also a freshman, will be a nice target for Dobbs or whoever throws the ball for Tennessee over the next few years.

This game might have told us something about the future of Tennessee. But another win tells us very little about Alabama, a team that proves the idea that no news is good news.
