Bowl Matchups Set as Multiple Reports Indicate Texas A&M to Cotton Bowl, LSU to Chick-fil-A

Scott Halleran

Barring something utterly and completely shocking in the next couple of hours, this will be the SEC bowl lineup

There's no official word yet -- we have to drag out the suspense, y'all -- but all signs and multiple reports (here's one) say that Texas A&M will go to the Cotton Bowl to play Oklahoma in a rematch of an old Big 12 game. (Just not the rematch that most of us not named DeLoss Dodds had hoped to see.)

And with that, we pretty much have the entire SEC bowl line-up locked up. It looks something like this:

BCS National Championship Game: Alabama vs. Notre Dame
Sugar Bowl: Florida vs. Louisville
Capital One Bowl: Georgia vs. Nebraska
Cotton Bowl: Texas A&M vs. Oklahoma
Outback Bowl: South Carolina vs. Michigan
Chick-fil-A Bowl: LSU vs. Clemson
Gator Bowl: Mississippi State vs. Northwestern
Music City Bowl: Vanderbilt vs. (Likely Virginia Tech or Duke) N.C. State, apparently
Compass Bowl: Ole Miss vs. Pitt

Most of these, I would think, are pretty good matchups in and of themselves. The Sugar and Capital One bowls might get out of hand, but it depends on which Florida and which Georgia show up, as well as which Louisville shows up. As for Nebraska -- well, the Capital One Bowl depends on which Georgia shows up.

That said, there will be some complaints from LSU fans, in particular, about going to the Chick-fil-A Bowl and some Vanderbilt fans about remaining in Nashville. Call me crazy, but I love the dysfunction of the bowl system.
