Taking a break from speculation about a less important topic -- his pending presidential bid -- Texas Gov. Rick Perry has addressed the Texas A&M to SEC realignment rumors. And (sort of) confirmed them.
"I'll be real honest with you. I just read about it the same time as y'all did. ... As far as I know, conversations are being had. That's frankly all I know. I just refer you to the university and the decision makers over there." ...
Perry didn’t say if the conversations were strictly internal at this point or involved direct discussions with the Southeastern Conference.
For those who don't know, Perry is a very proud A&M alumnus, and his approval might not be necessary to make a deal work but would make it a heck of a lot easier for the Aggies to bolt the Big XIIish for the SEC.
Of course, that doesn't mean that this is a done deal -- far from it. But it does mean that we have our first on-the-record confirmation from someone in a position to know that there is some sort of dialogue about A&M moving to the SEC. Stay tuned.
