Florida's Donovan, Parsons Sweep Major Coaches' SEC Awards
Florida won the SEC regular season championship, so it comes as no surprise that the Gators swept the major awards as voted on by league coaches. Billy Donovan won SEC Coach of the Year, and Chandler Parsons won SEC Player of the Year.
It's Donovan's first time winning the award despite his three Final Fours and two national titles. Parsons also is the first Florida player to ever win the award. The closest any Gator has come in recent memory was in 2005 when LSU's Brandon Bass edged out David Lee.

It comes as a surprise to me...
Admitting to bias as a Bama fan, the level of talent that Donovan had to work with compared to what Grant accomplished with so much less on hand makes it hard to explain as anything other than a lifetime achievement award. Donovan is a great coach and did a good job with a good team this year. But Grant spun straw (and pretty low quality straw at that) into at least silver and deserves the award more.
I don’t think you could go wrong with either guy. And it’s entirely possible the coaches voted fro Donovan because it’s about time he actually got one of these things, not necessarily for this season.
I expect the writers to vote for Grant, but we’ll see.
