Sad news today, as officials at Auburn have confirmed that someone poisoned the old live oaks at Toomer's Corner. A Finebaum caller claimed to have done so a few weeks ago, and lab tests have come back positive for an herbicide used to kill trees. The oaks at Toomer's are of course the ones that students roll with toilet paper to celebrate big victories for Auburn.
The university and Dow, the herbicide's manufacturer, are working to save the trees even as they admit there's very little hope to save them at this point. Here's hoping they succeed against the odds and save both the trees, as they are over 130 years old, and one of college football's great traditions.
