What Were the Biggest Stories in the SEC in 2011?
We rarely open up the floor quite this fully outside of Topics for Discussion, but we'll do it here and see what happens. The question: What would you say were the top 1 or 5 or 10 stories in the SEC in 2011? You can go as far as you want.
The story has to have happened, continued or be essentially contained within 2011. Anything that happened between Jan. 1, 2011, and now. Any sport. It can be a single game or an overarching theme or an off-the-field news event. It does have to involve something to do with the SEC, natch.
There are some obvious candidates that rhyme with donference dealignment, but don't be afraid to get creative. Maybe your choices will show up on our list, which should start rolling out soon here. Or maybe we're wrong.

Sports are chaotic and stupid; and we're bad at them.

Did you mean the NCAA announcement that AU had committed zero infractions?
Odd that USC’s & LSU’s NCAA investigations, that actually resulted in findings of guilt, didn’t make a blip on the radar.

Yes, that's precisely what I mean.

Still a big deal...
as it always is when the almost inevitable investigation comes out on a defending national champ. Anyone remember Tutorgate?
Five For Fighting
1. LSUs dominance amid so many off field distractions, or, Les Miles is a Wizard.
2. The smoldering tire fire that Houston Nutt lit at Ole Miss – Will it ever be put out?
3. The West dominates the SEC in teh footballs – great division in all of footballs or greatest division in all of footballs?
4. Nick Saban – Alien or Robot?
5. The turnaround at Georgia or, does God love Mark Richt more than Dan Mullen?
Awww. c'mon girl.
Top 5
1. Expansion. Will impact the SEC for decades.
2. Guaruntee of a 6th consecutive national championship.
3. Auburn being cleared.
4. Weakness of the SEC east.
5. Disparity between the top of the SEC (LSU/Bama) and the bottom (Ole Miss/TN)

Obvi, the expansion to 14 schools is story number one.
After that, the football and baseball dominance. Two SEC Teams In The Championship happened in both sports, remember.
I think Pat Summitt’s Alzheimer’s/dementia should be on any list as well.
In all kinds of weather we'll all stick together
Top 5
1) The continued dominance of the SEC West over the conference and the nation.
2) Conference expansion.
3) Auburn’s fall from the pinnacle to also-ran-dom.
4) Florida’s implosion.
5) Just how bad some of the teams were this year.
Top 5
1. All SEC Western division NC- if Lsu wins, toughest schedule ever played.
2. Georgia Turnaround
3. AU cleared in Cam Newton scandle
4. Vandy bowl eligible, Franklin inspires administration to committ to facilities.
5. SEC expansion

hmm...
Expansion absolutely has to be #1… based on the effect it will have on the conference for the forseeable future. It could easily be the story of the decade when all is said and done.
2. Bama/LSU NC game
3. Crazy Alabama stuff… The tree poisoning, and the wacky Aubun allegations.
4. South Carolina CWS
5. Pat Summitt
my list
1. SEC Expansion
2. Bama/LSU for BCS championship game
3. Pat Summitt
4. Kentucky and Florida back in NCAA Final Four
5. South Carolina CWS (with Florida 2nd)
Also getting votes:
Football signings limits (A.K.A. the Nutt rule)
Crazy Alabama/Auburn stuff (the trees, Cam investigation)
Trent Richardson and Honey Badger Heisman Finalists
"I solemnly swear to tell the truth as I know it, the whole truth as I believe it to be, and nothing but what I think you need to know."
All of these are good
From an Alabama perspective the tornado and the aftermath has to be on the list somewhere.
yeah, I forgot about that one... big story
"I solemnly swear to tell the truth as I know it, the whole truth as I believe it to be, and nothing but what I think you need to know."
The top story is
how Les seems to have taken some of Florida’s mojo by making a deal with the devil … I mean a grass eating, funky clapping, funny facial expression coach will have played for multiple national championships …
Coach Boom: Emperor Palpatine, I mean Saban, when I get to Florida who should I get to run my offense?
Emperor Pal ...err Nick Saban: Charlie Weis is better. He goes in first and screws the offense. Mike Shula is better. He leaves the fanbase devoid of hope and life. Oh, really, fool? Really.
[Notices Kerwin Bell walking up.]
Nick Saban: Stop looking at me, Bell.
1-conference expansion
2-bama/lsu nc game
3-Jordan Jefferson’s suspension
4-bama’s kicker
5-sc back to back cws championships (3 sec teams in the cws)
Honorable mention
-stephen garcia’s suspension(s)
-tebow mania (still counts right?)
