Reggie Bush's Heisman Trophy to be Vacated

Yahoo! Sports is reporting that the Heisman Trophy Trust will vacate Reggie Bush's 2005 Heisman Trophy. You may remember that Yahoo! Sports originally broke the story about Bush's impermissible benefits a few years ago.

The Heisman trust has been doing its own investigations in parallel to the NCAA's, and that appears to be wrapping up. The trust reportedly has concluded that Bush was indeed ineligible during the 2005 college football season, meaning that he was in turn ineligible to get the award. The rules for the award require a player to be in good standing with the NCAA in order to win the statuette.

This will be the first time the trophy is vacated, as no past winner has ever had his eligibility challenged. USC has already returned its copy of the '05 trophy, and I would guess that Bush will return his now too. Since the award is only being vacated, Vince Young will not retroactively be given that year's Heisman.

Reggie Bush

the Mark McGuire of college football. Yeah, he ruined a lot of stuff, but then again, having a very high profile guy be reprimanded about as visibly as college football is capable of will bring about changes in the university/athlete/NFL paradigm we see doesn’t work anymore.
