Around SBN: This Should Encourage Juan Mata

Remember that big post about the MWC and its BCS bid I wrote up yesterday. Boy, am I glad I spent the time on that one.

Utah officially accepted its Pac-10 bid and will join the conference in 2011 according to this PDF from the university. That means the MWC has zero chance of taking advantage of the timing technicality in trying to get its automatic bid.

It still lists Colorado as joining the conference in 2012, a year after Utah, Boise State, and Nebraska settle into their new homes. I guess that makes the Buffs the Boston College of this round of realignment.

This doesnt make much sense to me for the Pac-10

They will be forced to come up with a way to play as an 11-team conference and then expand again the next year to the full 12 teams. To me it makes more sense to just have both teams come in at the same time. Plus I guess I am kind of biased because I want to see the MWC get AQ status and maybe steal it from another conference.

Their buddy, the Big Ten, has been playing with 11 teams for years. For a single season, they could adopt that conference’s strategy (because 9 games with 11 teams doesn’t work mathematically). They probably still are looking to find a way to get Colorado in before 2012, too.

i think colorado is trying to get in by 2011 b/c they have to pay heavy penalties to the big 12

the mwc has no penalties for leaving i think.

Pac-10 wants to keep the big boy money for the big boys?

Step 1. Bring in Utah as soon as possible.
Step 2. Ward off MWC auto qualifier bid, and thus, their silly challenge to the Pac 10’s west coast dominance.
Step 3. Profit.

And if they do get CU to come in for 2011 then add...

Step 4. Play PAC12 CG in EST prime time and rake in more money.

It's not what you've done but what you are doing that matters.

Slight edit needed

Step 4. Play PAC12 CG in EST prime time and get destroyed in the ratings by the SEC title game.
