Florida State Wanted in the SEC
According to some at ESPN, Florida State was preparing to lobby for SEC admittance if Texas A&M came aboard. Chris Low puts it here in the linked-to blog post, and Ivan Maisel repeated it on this week's ESPN college football podcast.
Interesting that, 20 years after the SEC offered and FSU said no, FSU was prepared to be the one coming to the SEC and asking in. Maisel said that Florida was going to try to block an FSU entry into the SEC, which matches what everyone had assumed about that prospect. I'm just glad we never got that far.

Would anyone really want them now, anyway?
I know I wouldn’t.

To lock Florida down...
As a place where SEC culture dominates, monopolize the market, and basically keep everyone else out of the state.
Also
FSU commands a lot of TV sets nationally. More than Clemson, VT, Texas A&M, or any other proposed SEC addition save perhaps Miami.

Really, locking down 80% of Florida for SEC schools wouldn’t be too bad. In 10 years, when kids were growing up with nothing but SEC football, we’d (the SEC) own that state.
A shock *SHOCK* that UF would vote no.
Sadly, I’m sure plenty of schools would have voted yes, negating UF’s 1 nea vote.
Supposedly, Georgia and South Carolina would vote no in return for the same when Georgia Tech and Clemson were voted on
So they would only need one more to block per SEC rules
Team Speed Kills. All SEC, all the time.
No surprise here...
Bowden is out of the way. He was the problem twenty years ago.
