Sprints Has No Plans to Move to Memphis // 05.05.10

'And when we said postponed, we meant we might play them at that time anyway'
The Georgia Tech-Alabama "postponement" gets more and more bizarre.

Both schools had agreed to postpone the home-and-home series, scheduled at Alabama in 2013 and Bobby Dodd Stadium in 2014. However, as is common with scheduling, scenarios could shift that could bring the games back on their original dates.

The reason being given for the game maybe being back on is that Tech and Alabama might not be able to line up different opponents. Well, then -- why did you postpone the games in the first place?

Or maybe they can play in 2012
Alabama is looking for another neutral site game for that year.

Humanitarian for life?
John Calipari and Kentucky are working on a contract that would make the highest paid coach in NCAA basketball the most highest paid coach in NCAA basketball. UK AD Mitch Barnhart:

We have begun initial discussions on restructuring his contract so that he's the coach at Kentucky until he retires.

Or until he doesn't make the NCAAs one year. Whichever comes first.

Pros: It would get the SEC baseball tournament away from the Birmingham area
Memphis is now a potential location for both of the major SEC tournaments played with a perfectly spherical ball.

Since I live just 15 miles South of Memphis on I-55,

I’m in favor of moving the tournaments to Memphis. Yes, it’s selfish. From an objective perspective, Autozone Park is a beautiful stadium, and they would do an outstanding job hosting the SEC baseball schools. Ole Miss plays there every year, and it is quite an enjoyable atmosphere. Rendezvous (amazing barbecue) and the Peabody hotel are located right next to the stadium.

The negatives: parking would be a nightmare, and Memphis is scary from a crime perspective.

I wish the SEC would look at an alternating host site option where minor league parks around the South could host the tourney. That’d be fun.
