Sunday Tournament Open Thread

Well that was exciting.

How's your bracket doing? Yeah, mine too. With Kansas sent home by Northern Iowa (?!), Kentucky has to be the prohibitive favorite now, especially since the 'Cats have had no trouble at all in their first two games. Also, congrats to Tennessee for its third Sweet 16 in four years. Let's see if they can get beyond it now for the first time ever.

A little while ago today was looking fairly dud-like, but some crisp finishes are rolling in.

Okay, so maybe Cornell was underseeded just a bit… I don’t think I’ve ever seen a twelve rip through a five and a four like that. It’s possible both Temple and Wisconsin were overseeded, of course, but pretty remarkable nonetheless.

I honestly think that Cornell was more deserving of a four or five seed than either Temple or Wisconsin.

How the Selection Committee determined Cornell to be a 12 seed is beyond me. Well, actually it’s not beyond me, but it was clearly wrong, nonetheless.

Doubt they give Kentucky much trouble, though.

The funny thing with Cornell is that their defence has been really bad – normally the PPP numbers, or the shooting % against, or the complete lack of turnovers forced would spell horrible doom against competent opponents. But their offence has been astounding.

Kentucky makes for a fascinating match-up – we naturally think of the Cats as being an offensive power with all the high-flying young stars, but they’ve been even better on defence. Something’s gotta give Thursday.
