Rogers to UT?

ESPN is reporting a switch of Da’Rick Rogers from UGA to Tennessee. Dawg fans apparently reporting it’s academics related.

3* LB Darrin Kitchens (previously uncommitted) to Florida. Almost certainly a sign that higher touted LB Christian Jones going elsewhere (i.e. FSU).

Makes 9 commits from the greater Miami/south Florida area. That’s big news, since that area has mostly been Miami and FSU’s domain since the two of them got good at football.

Jones seemed to be such a strong lean to FSU I didn’t really think he was in play anyhow. Would be nice to get one more of the big names left.

Sounds good to me. Coxson would be nice too, of course – I can’t help but feel that this class is a little light on guys who actually, you know, score points. Though UF could be plenty deep in that department already if some guys develop, and I suppose that Debose could be considered the offensive stud of this class, since he would never have red-shirted if healthy.

If true, him + Coxson = end of Florida’s day. They make #27 and #28, and 28 is the SEC’s LOI limit.

Still...

plenty to be excited about with the current crop as is. 3 of GA’s top 4 defenders stay with the Dawgs, Richard Samuel moving to LB, Kris Durham returning to action this year. Lots to be excited about…

There’s a lot to like about what Georgia has coming back on offense, but I’m not sure about the rest. UGA still has a nice class, but it’s missed on some high profile guys today.

Team Speed Kills
SBNation's SEC Blog

by Year2 on Feb 3, 2010 1:36 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

very true...

…but I don’t think losing Rogers and Whitaker hurts the team itself nearly as much as it hurts UGA’s perception across the country as a national recruiting power. Georgia has plenty of horses at the wideout spots (including the possibility/probability of Logan Gray moving out wide) and picked up two great DT prospects today.

All this recruiting talk aside, Georgia’s 2010 season rests infinitely more on the play of Murray/Mettenberger than it does on any of these recruits signing on today…

Les Miles always struck me as the kind of guy who would leave his term paper until the night before… he’d probably kick-start the “creative process” with a shot of Jagermeister, too. Seems to be working today, though.

For all the talk of him “running out of Nick Saban’s players” there, he does an excellent job at getting highly rated guys.

Yeah. Though this one has been pretty low-key for us so far, with almost of the excitement weeks back around the all-star games (and that helps tamp down the unreasonable swings of emotion) – all of the guys who came into the day verbally committed to UF (but not enrolled) signed LOI.

What’s the surprise of the day so far? Allen to Cal?

by peachy rex on Feb 3, 2010 1:54 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

There has been some doubt about him for a while, and Cal was reported to be in the picture before today.

Overall, probably Calvin Smith to New Mexico because it’s freaking New Mexico. 4* guys from Florida just don’t go play at mediocre MWC schools. That, or LSU suddenly stealing guys left and right. I didn’t expect Miles to play robber baron all of a sudden.
