Slive Speaks on Cam Newton Ruling
Mike Slive spoke to FanHouse about the Newton ruling today.
He didn't receive the final set of facts agreed upon by the NCAA and Auburn until Monday, so that explains the timing somewhat. He also gives three reasons why he didn't rule Newton in violation of the SEC's bylaw, mostly relating to the rule's intent and precedent.
Slive also says that he will work to get the loophole in the NCAA rules closed that allows for no real punishment to come from this case based on the facts as known now.

Integrity is for the little people.
Im glad Auburn and the NCAA could agree on facts so quickly. Isnt that nice when two parties interested in a certain outcome can agree on facts that just so happen to allow them to reach that outcome?
Isn’t it great that AU has such a tremendous track record in this sort of thing that they get the boon of immediate resolution while lesser programs get issued findings of fact and have to, you know, go through the usual process.
And isn’t it great that the SEC guarantees another year of National Championship revenue! And the NCAA gets that marquee Oregon-Auburn Championship Game! And CBS gets higher revenue! And Cam gets to play! Isn’t everyone so happy?
What a joke. Nothing lost here save honor, and what’s that balanced against pushing Auburn to the national championship game. Hell, I wonder why we’re even bothering to play it? We should ask Cam if he’d rather just go onto Glendale. Whatever you say, Cam! Show us the money, Cam!
