A Portrait of Offensive Malaise: Florida State 31, Florida 7

Sometimes, it's best just to let the numbers do the talking. A portrait of Florida's offensive malaise in Tallahassee:

50: The completion percentage of the two Florida quarterbacks.

64: Passing yardage, equal to 4.0 yards per attempt.

3: Number of drives that crossed midfield.

0: Number of those drives that produced points. (Florida's scoring drive began in FSU territory.)

7: Total points.

3: Number of times Florida has scored seven or fewer points this season.

1: Number of times Florida had scored seven or fewer points in the Urban Meyer Era before this year.

7-5: Florida's record.

2004: The last time Florida was 7-5.

2004: Ron Zook's last season as Florida head coach.

A clarification on that last point: No one is seriously saying that Urban Meyer is going to be fired, at least not anyone who's sane. But Steve Addazio is probably headed for the chopping block, and Gainesville is a very unhappy place this evening.

I just want to take this moment to say: You were right about Tyrone Nix and I was wrong. That is all.

Yikes

Hate seeing that stat in print. Hadn’t thought about it like that before – the only time we’ve been held to 7pts or less was the Bama game in ’05. Ugh, ugly.

All in all though, I have to say that tonight was not the coaches’ faults. I think the game plan had considerably more creativity than some of our worst showings this season. We aired it out on 1st down, tried a fake punt in our own territory and switched up quarterbacks at good times.

Florida is just not a good team this year. The players did not execute. We had seniors on defense made to look like freshman clowns. A fake punt, we had our (slooooow) punter run, instead of throw; Henry was a pretty good qb in highschool. On a 3rd & 1, we sent the future of our QB position up over the top on a dive instead of using the short yardage to try and slash for a long play (just pick up the 1 yd on the dive on 4th??).

Florida is a terrible team this year. I’m glad 2010’s football season is over for us, and I"m looking forward to enjoying GOOD football from here forward.

Had other obligations to get to

This one was a lay-up. The Arkansas recap is now posted and is here.

No

I was on the fence about whether to do one. You convinced me that it was warranted.

Note

While Florida did score 14 against South Carolina, one of the touchdowns was on a return. The offense only managed seven.
