Spitballing a BlogPoll Ballot Draft

This is a window into what I'm thinking before I actually sit down and craft a careful BlogPoll ballot. I probably won't be able to do that in time to get the full one up, and they're due on Monday, so I wanted to give you all a chance to see what I'm thinking. Here goes.

1 Alabama (-)
2 Florida (+3)
3 Boise State (+3)
4 Texas (-)
5 TCU (-3)
6 Ohio State (+3)
7 Iowa (+5)
8 Virginia Tech (+2)
9 Penn State (+8)
10 Georgia Tech (-1)
11 Cincinnati (-7)
12 Oregon (-5)
13 Nebraska (+13)
14 Wisconsin (+12)
15 Miami (-2)
16 Texas Tech (+4)
17 Southern Cal (-)
18 Pittsburgh (+5)
19 Ole Miss (+7)
20 BYU (+2)
21 Utah (+5)
22 Oklahoma (+4)
23 Connecticut (+3)
24 Stanford (-9)
25 Central Michigan (+1)

Again, this is very early and not something I really like right now.

TCU should be right behind Boise State

BSU won, but that game was dead even. The difference was a fake punt. Either they’re both better than Texas, or they’re both worse. Looking at the season as a whole, I think they’re both better. Apart from that, I like your top 10 a lot, and things get quite muddled after that. The big thing that jumps out to me is that BYU is way too low. That was an impressive win over Oregon State, much more impressive than wins by Oregon, Cincinnati, and Southern Cal over the same team. This isn’t to say that BYU is better than all three of those teams (although they’ve shown WAY more than Southern Cal this year), just that I think you’re underestimating them. I’d pick them over the six teams directly ahead of them (at least). Speaking of those six teams, the 15-19 in your poll is extremely weak (with the possible exception of Pittsburgh). That said, if you moved up the teams behind them, I’m not sure you’d get much better (with the exception of BYU, who I’ve already said should be much higher).

Georgia Tech is too high

They showed a lot less against Iowa (and Georgia…and even in their win against Clemson) than Oregon. Not that I’m for promoting Cincy, but Tech should be below them too.

And didn’t Texas show more against Bama than Florida did?

I'm not sure either Texas or Florida looked good enough against Alabama to give them credit

In any case, Florida was better the rest of the season.

I’m with you on Georgia Tech. Just having trouble seeing who I would move higher.

For one, Cincinnati

I’d be okay with Cincy over GT. You try playing a bowl game with your head coach gone and the interim head coach with a foot out the door. The Bearcats really were better than they looked in the Sugar Bowl.
