Recruiting Round Up: January 26

There wasn't a lot of recruiting developments this past week as most guys who want to commit before signing day have done so, leaving only those holding out until the big day left uncommitted. They still remain uncommitted, if that last sentence confused you.

Right now is the time when coaching staffs are making their final pushes, rumors about silent commits abound, and message board creatures get less and less rational. For the last week up to national signing day, you might want to just focus on something more sane and less rumor-frenzied, like the Apple tablet speculation or something. At least that all comes to an end tomorrow.

This week's rankings below where Mississippi State is still rising, South Carolina is sliding some, and ESPN finally wakes up.

Gaps.

What’s impressive to me is the gap between Florida at the top and everyone else. Also, is it just be, or is Gene Chizik closing the gap in the battle for the state of Alabama?

"A player who conjugates a verb in the first person singular cannot be part of the squad, he has to conjugate the verb in the first person plural. We. We want to conquer. We are going to conquer. Using the word 'I' when you're in a group makes things complicated." ~ Wanderley Luxemburgo, 1999

Chizik is doing well this year for sure, but there’s a way to go before Auburn and Bama are on a level playing field. I think this year will make Saban’s third straight top-five class (correct me if I’m wrong), so there’s work left to be done.

Sure, But...

Chizik would be 1/1 in that department and really only two years behind without the cupboard ever really being that bare…
