BREAKING: ESPN Reports Lane Kiffin to USC

PrintI thought this never had a chance, but...
Tennessee's Lane Kiffin has agreed in principle to become the next head coach at Southern California, sources close to the situation told ESPN.com's Chris Low on Tuesday...
According to the sources, Kiffin will bring his father and defensive coordinator, Monte Kiffin, and assistant head coach and recruiting coordinator Ed Orgeron to Southern Cal with him, and wide receivers coach Kippy Brown will be named interim head coach at Tennessee.
More to come as more comes out. Looks like my SEC East primer is already out of date, which is why it's always too early to look at next year.

i seriously can't believe this shit
as a loyal tennessee fan, i feel like i should’ve expected this, but i didn’t. kiffin was clearly bad news as soon as he started talking shit to meyer and everyone else in the SEC. he was a good enough coach, first year making to to a bowl game and all, but im still pretty shocked. this makes me mad for one reason and one reason only; the recruiting class. im glad we got that no-class douche out of knoxville for good, i just wish he could’ve stayed long enough to keep the class together, it was lookin pretty good there for awhile.

Truer words have never been spoken. I feel for you guys, really. But not too much considering how much he was defended during the season. I guess I probably would have done the same thing if it were my coach, though.
Any chance this is part of Kiffin’s plan to get Tennessee’s name in the papers?

I just read this on ESPN.com on accident. Now its popping up everywhere slowly. What a punch in the face to Tennessee. Is USC that much better of elite school then Tenn? I guess so.

Me, I can’t see it. They wanted a break from the Fulmer culture there, and despite how this Kiffin thing turned out, it’s still the best thing in the long run. Bringing back a longtime Fulmer assistant makes no sense; why not just rehire Phil himself?

I wasn’t surprised when Urban resigned, because the signs had been there for a while. The creeping conservatism as a coach, his physical appearance, his stated desire to retire young. I didn’t predict that he’d quit or anything, but it didn’t surprise me. The coming back…sort of….did surprise me, though.
No Vol fan should be surprised at Kiffin. When someone is almost universally hated, has swirling allegations of cheating, and jumps coaching gigs with regularity, this shouldn’t be shocking. I guess I’m a little surprised so many Vols bought his act so completely. I guess I would too, though.

I can’t see how this works out for USC. Besides the whole “totally unproven as a HC” thing, hiring a guy with his record while possibly staring down a serious set of sanctions strikes me as utterly bizarre – it’s like hanging a big sign on the outside of the stadium reading “Screw You NCAA Infractions Committee!” An absolutely squeaky-clean NFL coach would have better… unless USC literally couldn’t get anyone else because of fears of impending doom.

I can finally start rooting for Tennessee again now that he is gone. If Alabama made it through the coaching carousel then I know sure as hell that Tennessee can. Good luck to Tennessee and all their players and fans!!!!
