College GameDay is Going to Texas-Texas Tech
Despite the Florida-Tennessee game being the likeliest to receive the most headlines this week, the GameDay crew is going to Austin. This makes total sense because:
A) the Longhorns and Red Raiders moved the game to this week to accommodate ABC, and
B) Tech is a lot closer to being ranked than Tennessee is.
That is all.

Though...
… I can certainly understand the pull of the Texas/Texas Tech game and a good revenge tale, I am a bit baffled that they didn’t take the Nebraska/Virginia Tech game.
VT also has a loss, whereas the two Texas schools don’t. Yo may have heard something about that by now.

ESPN GameDay usually stays away from CBS games. That’s why they won’t be in Gainesville this week.

I’d always thought that was more a matter of them avoiding too many SEC games. Although you could use Vanderbilt – Auburn as an example that they will lean toward the SEC game if it’s one they’re showing, but I thought that was more a matter of the novelty of having a valid excuse to visit Vanderbilt.
While a lot of times Gameday does choose a lesser ABC game over a CBS game,
this time I’d have a hard time saying that bias is in play with ESPN avoiding a game between a defending champ 28 point favorite and a team that just lost at home to UCLA. That’s just not a Gameday matchup unless you’re really desperate and there are NO other decent games (like last year with UF-Miami.
And I say that
as someone who will be in Gainesville for the weekend. I would almost be embarrassed if we were taking up Gameday for an overhyped game in which Tennessee (at least on paper) is just plain outmatched.
plus
We’ve been on Gameday enough already. The crew is probably sick of Gainesville, and the local Pick-n-Save is running out of hair gel for Herbie.
The only thing
is that I’m not sure there are any other home games that qualify for Gameday status. It would be sad to have no home Gameday games this year.
Arkansas would stand a chance if they beat UGA and Auburn to come into town with 1 loss, except that UF-LSU the week before is almost certain to be Gameday.
So what?
After hosting Gameday so many times, who cares if they come to Gainesville this season or not? If they really want to make the trip, they can come for FSU – Tebow’s last game in the Swamp. That’s reason enough despite the beating which will occur that afternoon.
In my 7 years in Gainesville (2002-2008),
Gameday only came to town 4 times. And it always made Saturday more fun.
