Pitt’s up 21-10 after a flea flicker TD. One team is dealing well with the snow and one is not. This one is officially upset bait of the first order.

After a field goal,

Pitt. goes up 24-10. Then they black a punt and Pitt. runs it in for a touchdown. Pitt. up 31-10.

ECU up 14-13 on Houston

To me that would be the bigger upset than Pitt over Cincy

Cincy catching up

Down just 31-24 now late in the third. I might not have to redo the Big East portion of my BCS post for tomorrow after all.

Maybe it's because I've watched Charlie Strong coached defenses for years,

but these defenses are comically bad. I wouldn’t hire Kelley is I were ND. I realize offense is his thing, but they’ve been horrendous today on D, and frankly all year. The fact that Swarbick (sp?) said in the press conference that they were going to hire a coach with an established defensive pedigree, after the Weis experiment, would suggest Kelley isn’t the man. The hilarity once Stoops, Meyer etc say “no” will be overwhelming.

by Giant Catfish on Dec 5, 2009 3:36 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

I still think Strong is actually the best candidate for Notre Dame

They’re probably hesitant about coordinators right now, but it would give them good PR and a coach to fix their biggest problem.

I love Charlie

but frankly, he isn’t ready for the spotlight to end all spotlights of Notre Dame. It’s rumored he doesn’t interview well. He’s very well-spoken, but can seem a little hot under the lights. One day, I think he’ll be ready for ND/UF/Bama type exposure, but he needs a stepping stone. Louisville, other than it’s limited recruiting base, would be a great choice.

It was supposed to snow Friday night in Atlanta

If it did, it was after I left. But I had fun thinking about the game being outside instead of in the Georgia Dome and Alabama and Florida trying to play in the snow.

Alabama is just straight up dominating this game.

can a shot of Tebow yelling at teammates be far behind?

by froberts on Dec 5, 2009 5:27 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

All David Nelson does is catch touchdowns in Championship games.

Tebow starts to save our *. At least we didn’t wait til halftime this one.

by Giant Catfish on Dec 5, 2009 5:31 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Will the defense respond to that drive?

or will Bama’s offense continue to assert itself?

by froberts on Dec 5, 2009 5:33 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

I know I'm biased...

…so I’d love to hear from the “outsiders” on here. But to this Bama fan the officiating looks so incredibly biased it couldn’t be worse if Urban was doing it himself. Florida is holding every play on both offense and defense and it’s only been called once.

Am I just looking through crimson glasses or does anyone else see it?

If you were UF's OC...

would you, like me, have a play called “Improv” where you have sandlot routes, one guy in the backfield, and just tell Tebow to do whatever the heck he wants? Compared to our designed plays, I bet it would work 50% more often.

by Giant Catfish on Dec 5, 2009 5:34 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

I haven't really noticed the officiating.

But I will watch it more closely now.

by froberts on Dec 5, 2009 5:35 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

There were two holds and a block in the back on that pass.

Oh, and Watchman, considering the fact that Bama has had 0 or 1 penalty called on them, I’d say that NO, the officiating is not biased in UF’s favor.

by Giant Catfish on Dec 5, 2009 5:36 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Bias is also in things not called dude.

by Watchman on Dec 5, 2009 5:37 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

I'm sorry, I just have to ask you.

Florida has been penalized a lot. Bama has not. In your mind, that’s bias for Bama? So Florida has committed a penalty every play, while Bama has been spotless?

Crimson glasses doesn’t begin to describe that idea.

by Giant Catfish on Dec 5, 2009 5:39 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I think this is pretty much what we should have expected

Though I still wish Mike Slive had gone with my idea for an “all-star” crew with Penn Wagers and Marc Curles, he appears to have found the next best thing.

That said, I’m glad they’re letting them play. The last thing I want is a parade of flags in the SEC Championship Game.

Team Speed Kills. All SEC, all the time.

by cocknfire on Dec 5, 2009 5:41 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I'm fine with letting them play

but letting them play is a decision to interpret the game away from reality. Reality is that there should be a lot of flags. If you decide to purposefully ignore certain things, it better be even. Ignoring things only when one team does it is not OK.

by Giant Catfish on Dec 5, 2009 5:44 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

What I’m seeing is that Florida isn’t being called for a huge numnber of penalties they’re committing and that those have been at crucial moments on big plays, like the long Tebow run. But I started by saying I was biased. I’m curious as to the view of the “neutral” observers. I’m sure your glasses are as orange as mine are red.

by The Feathered Warrior on Dec 5, 2009 5:58 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

The first drive of the second half is crucial.

UF must have a long drive, really needs to score, and needs a TD (see what I did there? Descending order of importance).

TD gives them the lead, and shifts some of the excruciating pressure to Bama. A score takes it to a field goal lead, and a long drive flips field possession.

by Giant Catfish on Dec 5, 2009 6:02 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Two Tough Teams

We are seeing a game between the two best teams in the country. Neither backs down. Neither gives up. Each answers the other. The question is probably not who gets the ball to start the half but who has it last. This could well come down to the final possession.

by Watchman on Dec 5, 2009 6:05 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

I’m okay with where Florida is at. Not with how they played, but with the score. As bad as Bama outplayed UF, Gators are down just 6.

I doubt Florida will continue to play this badly, and one score isn’t that bad to come back from.

by froberts on Dec 5, 2009 7:05 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

And that sums it up.

UF needs a replay overturn to keep the drive alive, then Tebow throws a pick to end the threat.

by froberts on Dec 5, 2009 7:10 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Urban has gone from an innovative, aggressive coach

to a glorified Jim Tressel. Remember the fake punt against Arkansas in ‘06? What the heck happened to that guy? The UF coach now wouldn’t call a reverse, let alone a fake anything.

He allows his assistants to run rampant over HIS program, allows established players to coast without an ounce of effort, and refuses to even pretend to be aggressive.

Addazio killed us this year, but he never should have been allowed to. Meyer never should have put us in a position to blow this much talent. He never should have let his DC go job hunting before the biggest….no, the ONLY game of the year.

UF doesn’t get another dime from my family (believe me, it’s sizable normally) until Addazio is gone, and Meyer takes control again. Make me believe Mullen wasn’t covering for 5 years.

by Giant Catfish on Dec 5, 2009 7:11 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Dude, I know this probably isn't much consolation right now, but you're still going to be 12-1 and playing in the Sugar Bowl. Urban must be doing something right...

But you can’t win it all and beat your opponents by 40 every year. Sometimes, there’s just one team that’s better. That’s Alabama. The Gators and Meyer still had a great year.

This year is an abject failure.

I said at the beginning of the season that anything other than an undefeated NC is inexcusable. I don’t always demand that. Next year I’d be happy with 9 wins, assuming many juniors go pro. Not this year, though. This is the most talented UF team to ever take the field, and they blow it in the only game Tebow/Spikes etc came back for.

Failure. Absolute failure. Screw the Sugar Bowl, and screw Cincy. I know most (any?) people won’t remember, but around the Arkansas game, I made it clear I hated this team. I hate their attitude, I hate their entitlement, I hate their laziness, I hate their gameplan. I LOVED the 2006 team, I LOVED 2008. This team plays like a bunch of entitled pansys, and frankly I won’t miss most of them. Enjoy the NFL, it’s all you’ve cared about all year.

by Giant Catfish on Dec 5, 2009 7:20 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I remember...

and it was as absurd then as it is now. Sorry, but Florida’s talent level isn’t so great this year that they can just show up and win 12 straight games while being lazy and entitled. This is a good team. They went 12-0 and now happen to lose to what appears to be a better team. Don’t disparage the rest of your opponents by saying they were so bad that a lazy, uncaring, unfocused Florida mopped the floor with them.

He has no connection to Bama.

The explosion of the internet and SBNation and sites like it

has had the unanticipated benefit of SEC fans seeing, and knowing what Gator fans have always known. That is, FSU is the very pit of evil.

One more...

“just saw tebow cry on t.v ……… again. I can feel the “fans” jumping off the bandwagon. roll tide **** the gators"

Except he wasn’t nice enough to censor. I’d say something about…you know…the fact that FSU is horrible….or that UF killed FSU….but these aren’t people capable of reason. Ok, now I’m leaving.

So, who wins the championship games starting in 15 minutes?

I’ve got Texas and GT winning big.

Texas in a close-ish game, and GT in a walk.

Not that I will be watching. I am signing off now to go kill as many people as possible in MW2.

Texas big and GT close.

That is, unless Spiller has another tummy ache. Then I’ll take GT big.

I concur with both picks.

Of course I also had Florida in a run-away…

As much as I hated how the media fawned all over Tebow, I am going to miss him next season.

INT Texas

If Texas loses, could we see Florida sneak into the NC game?

No

Not with the way they got defeated in the SECCG. It’ll be TCU.

Don't count TCU out of things if they get it

I’m not sure their defense isn’t better than Florida’s. Their offense, though …

After watching Texas in this first quarter, you sure you don’t want a team with an explosive offense like Cincinnati or TCU playing against Alabama?

TCU is a pretty good football team. They might give 'Bama a game if they play well.

Cinci, on the other hand, would probably get waxed.

Tech is a fun team to watch. Prettier than Texas or Nebraska, that’s for sure.

Crazy game between Nebraska and Texas. Nebraska blocked the punt and have great field position again. Then they throw an INT.

Then Georgia Tech keeps killing themselves with penalties in the red zone against Clemson.

I love watching football in the snow.

And I’m in Alabama.

"So I want everybody to think here for a second, how much does this game mean to you? 'Cause if it means something to you, you can't stand still. You understand? You play fast! You play strong! You go out there and dominate the man you're playing against, and you make his ass quit! That's our trademark! That's our M.O.... as a team! That's what people know us as!" - Coach Nick Saban before the 2008 LSU game.

Iowa’s Ricky Stanzi or Nebraska’s Zac Lee?

But so far his performance is playing into Mark Ingram’s hands.

If he hadn’t had that tummy ache last week, I’d say he was making a Heisman statement.
