Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

ESPN's Ivan Maisel one upped Rivals' Tom Dienhart by getting four coaches to go on record in breaking down the SEC title game participants: Lane Kiffin, Dan Mullen, Rich Brooks, and South Carolina's Ellis Johnson. All of them, in one way or another, think Tim Tebow's the key to the game.

To me, the best insight unsurprisingly came from the guy who used to coach the Florida quarterback: "We really encouraged them to run Tim Tebow. One thing with Tim is he will wear you down but he will not beat you with the big play. They moved the ball on us, but we stopped them in the red zone." Mullen's exactly right: you're better off having Tebow rush for two to six yards than having Jeff Demps go for 50 or letting Riley Cooper get open behind the defense.

Are you thinking Chaney?

I didn’t see any dead giveaways. Which part makes you think it was a TN assistant? (it very well may be; it just didn’t jump out at me).

I assume you’re referring to the other article.

I was thinking it was more a UT defensive assistant. It’s based on the panning of McElroy, the lack of being impressed with the Tide defensive backfield (Crompton went for 256 on them), and the talk of using a lot of zone and dropping eight into coverage against Florida.

Some have suggested Ellis Johnson was one of them, and that would kind of make sense, but then he went on record in the ESPN article. I guess Johnson could have done both, but I don’t know, that seems unlikely to me that he’d require anonymity in one place but not another (unless Dienhart made it part of the initial offer). Anyway, I think he’d get coaches from common opponents, and Tennessee played both.

At the very least, the “Julio is aggressive, but he can’t take a 2-yard play and turn it into an 80-yard play” line ensures that one guy was not an LSU assistant.

I dont know

If Kiffins comment about Tebow and the Gators is a compliment to Tebow, or a insult to the Gators.

I am assuming its a compliment
