The SEC Against the Spread
As of right now, Spurrier is the SEC's best spread-coverer (ATS == Against The Spread). I would not have guessed this. But they covered the spread in both of their losses, so it makes sense.
*The difference in the number of games is because I am only counting games against Division I-A schools.
Here are the against-the-spread numbers for the BCS and SEC champions in the BCS era.
What jumps out at me about these numbers are just how good the 2008 Florida and 2005 Texas teams really were. It is really tough to consistently cover two and three touchdown spreads, but these teams did it. Same goes for USC and LSU in 2003. Really impressive.
And now on to current events.
This week's picks (home team in caps):
Georgia +16 over Florida
Miss. St. +3.5 over KENTUCKY
TENNESSEE -6 over Spurrier
Tulane +36 over LSU
AUBURN +4.5 over Ole Miss
Georgia Tech -12 over VANDY
ARKANSAS -38 over Eastern Michigan.

I depart on:
Tennessee and Auburn.
Up in the air with the State-UK game…that’s a toxic line
And, I think LSU takes out their frustrations on a very bad Tulane team to tune up for the trip to Tuscaloosa. Now whether that’s a 41-3 win or a 35-6 win is a different story.

The LSU game
It was a toss-up. I didn’t bet on it in real life.

...The Arky game either
Both of those games were coin flips. I should have picked both to cover. Would have gotten one right. Again, though, not games I would take in real life.

Interesting that you
admit surprise at the news South Carolina is the best team in the conference ATS, then immediately decline a chance to take points with the Gamecocks. South Carolina is even better as a dog, going 3-0 against the number with one win SU.
If you want to play this game, take the points.

they did it in the 2007 season. they were not expected to be good
todd ressing was the young qb and he is very short so kansas did not get much respect at first but it got better as the season progressed. they beat va. tech in a bcs bowl. they went 11-1 straight up and 11-1 ats. what is kinda funny now is the coach of kansas i think benched ressing in his last outing.

speaking of which.....
That last series in the UF/FSU game was one of those “great moments in football betting history.” If FSU kicks the FG, they cover the spread….
