Name Your ALL TIME players
Some recent debate on wich school has the best Alums. I am not arguing the Gators have the best, but I'll make a list of mine, and you make a list of yours and see how they look. In college only as well, dont tell me how many Super Bowls so and so won.
Tim Tebow-You know…
Jack Youngblood-Youngblood was enshrined into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1992
Emmit Smith-3,928 yards and 36 touchdowns -- while playing just three seasons in Gainesville. College Football Hall of Fame
Steve Spurrier-won the Heisman Trophy. College Football Hall of Fame
Danny Wuerffel-one of the most efficient and productive quarterbacks in college football history.
Wilber Marshall-"National Defensive Player of the Year",made the All-America Team twice (1982, 1983). College Football Hall of Fame
Lito Sheppard-two time All-American

I don’t think Lito and Jabar fit with the others.
At WR, I would have to strike the guy who stole jewelry from future teammates and instead put Ike Hilliard, Chris Collinsworth, or Reidel Anthony. Errict Rhett was an amazing college back, as was Fred Taylor. I’ll have to think about this one pretty serioulsy, so we can compete with Kid Burbon’s all-time UT team!!
theres tons of players I could list
But thats my list, Fred Taylor is one my favorite players, I also like Rhett, being he was a Buc too. But I dont know of anything presigious they might have accomplished while at UF.
Jabar, and Lito were both two time All-Americans, thats not somthing I can say about the above players…If Jabar stayed I would argue he would of broke all Florida Wr records.
Yea
but he played all 4 seasons compare to Smiths 3, so yes he was one of the best Gator RB’s, but I dont know if he was one of the best RB in college in that ERA. I might be wrong, I am just saying I dont see any awards or rec’s such as All American to show for it. I was just a kid back then, so I cant go straight from memory.
but look at the offenses
Smith played in an offense where he was the featured back – everything was geared toward Emmitt running the ball.
Rhett played in the fun and gun (or whatever they called it) where everything was centered around the pass. A lot of Rhett’s yards came in the second half when we were just running down the clock.
I agree ... incomplete w/o Hilliard/Anthony/Quezzie
Ike Hilliard, Reidel Anthony, and Jaquez Green were directly responsible for Wuerffel’s successful career.
How about Lawrence Wright? the hit heard ’round the world. Bonus points because it was against a UT player. Also 1996 Jim Thorpe award.
Fred Taylor’s career at UF was inconsistent due to his disciplinary problems, so I would go with Smith/Rhett. But, who can forget the 61-yd TD against FSU with 9 men stacked in the box?
Who do we have for all-time kicker / punter?
Do we get to include coaches? Let the Spurrier/Meyer for all-time coach debate begin!
Again,
I dont disagree totally, its just hard to argue with another SEC fan that Anthony was an elite WR at that time…what is my argument? Hes one of the best gator WR of all time? I was only like 12 years old when those guys played there, I dont recall them doing anything that stands out over another teams great players. I didnt know Wright won the the Thorpe award either. So its not like I am saying you guys are wrong, All of us Gator fans were suppose to input are greats against other teams greats. Maybe I wasnt clear, or maybe nobody else cares except us, but no one else wants to play.
No we have never had any great kickers, not that I remember. Especially since 1990, becuase really…how often do we kick FG, and punts?
Urban Meyer- 2 titles, 1 hiesman.
Spurrier- 1 title, 1 hiesman, but would there be a Meyer here if it wasnt for Spurrier? Also he had 7-8 sec titles.
Just for the sake of discussion
Reidel Anthony was a first-team All American, and set the SEC single season TD reception record with 18 TD’s in 1996.
He ranks in the top 10 in SEC history for career receptions and TD receptions. Is he the single greatest WR of all time? No. Is he elite? I think we can support the claim.
Well, if we’re comparing our greatest to the rest of the SEC’s greatest, Bryant would trump Spurrier and Meyer. And for running backs, I think Georgia has that one cornered with Herschel Walker. Harvin would own the “Percy position” (kind of a circular definition, but I like it).
So is this supposed to be a Florida only discussion?
Because as far as Ole Miss is concerned, here are the following.
QB – Eli/Archie Manning : It’s hard to decide. Eli is clearly one of the most talented SEC quarterbacks ever, but Archie won Sugar Bowls.
HB – Deuce McAllister : Had he not been injured his senior season, he would have been a legitimate Heisman contendor.
WR – Chris Collins : Ole Miss has little to no receiver history. Geezer-ass Rebel fans would argue for guys who played in the 1950’s… you know, that time when the ball was hardly ever thrown and black people weren’t allowed to attend SEC schools? They hardly deserve consideration.
DE – Ben Williams, Derrick Burgess
DT – Peria Jerry : He really is the best to ever play at Ole Miss.
LB – Patrick Willis : Duh…
DB – Ken Lucas : State fans were all about “Smoot for Heisman” when Fred Smoot and Ken Lucas were both seniors at their respective schools… Guess who was drafted higher?
K – Johnathan Nichols : Lou Groza award winner in 2003. The only two kicks he missed all season came against LSU… we lost by 3.
There are some guys like Shay Hodge and Greg Hardy which are some of the best to ever play their position at Ole Miss, but this is supposed to be an alumni only discussion as far as I can tell.

No its not a UF discussion, just turned out that way.
I am not a SEC historian, a couple of these guys I have never heard of, and the ones I have heard of is mostly from thier NFL play. What did these players do in college, any records, awards, allamericans? I remember Eli being one of the top QBs in college.
Eli should have won the Heisman
but didn’t because he wasn’t playing for Oklahoma. All-American, Academic All-American, Maxwell Award Winner, Johnny Unitas Award, etc etc. Also, he is one of the few quarterbacks who can boast having never lost to Florida (while his brother and papa can’t say they ever defeated Florida).
Duece McAllister is the only player in the history of Ole Miss to record three seasons with at least 1,000 all-purpose yards. He finished his college career with Ole Miss records for carries (616), yards (3,060), rushing TDs (36), total touchdowns (41) points (246) and 100-yard games (13). He also recorded touchdowns five different ways: rushing, receiving, passing (one on a trick play), PR, and KR.
Chris Collins, simply put, has the most receiving yards in a season by a Rebel. Wasn’t an All-American, but he was likely All-SEC.
Burgess was an All-SEC end. Williams was All-American.
I can’t believe I forgot Tight End Rufus French! He was a consensus All-American in 1997.
Patrick Willis was everybody’s All-American and won a slew of linebacker awards.
Ken Lucas was just a freak athlete. He had several picks and pass breakups, saw some time on offense as a receiver, was used occasionally as a returner, and blocked two punts on special teams.
In order to not be repetitive, just read above for Johnathan Nichol’s info.

I was at that LSU game at VHS
but what I find most interesting about ‘03 is that the Brian Bennet kid, kicker from UGA finished second in the Groza award, missing only 3 FG’s all year against guess who….LSU! and if you are asking yourself – " but didn’t LSU win the natio-"….yes, yes they did. the 2 best kickers in the country combined for a total of 5 misses which cost their respective teams the win against the eventual national champion. WTF?
How could all you UF fans not mention
Chris Doering?
