NFL Commish: No pay scale for 2010
Roger Goodell has ruled out a rookie pay scale in for players drafted in 2010 -- something that was expected to prompt more junior defections this year. Whether this has any impact on Matthew Stafford, Knowshon Moreno or Tim Tebow (and, yes, he's mentioned in the piece) is up for debate -- particularly since, as some have pointed out, Tebow is unlikely to be a high pick anyway; he might go higher as a TE, WR or FB than QB, but he still won't be a very high draft pick. But one wonders if it could cause a similar wave of potential defections ahead of the 2011 draft.

Is it weird for me to want the Bears to go 0-16 next year if Tebow stays?
And then fire Ron Turner and Lovie Smith, hire a spread coach from the college ranks, and draft Tebow? Give him another year in college, a year when he doesn’t have to win a NatChamp w/o Chris Leak, and let the same mechanic scientists who fixed his throwing motion to prevent stress work on his release and other mechanics. Let him have some time playing a pro-style offense every once in a while (including taking snaps under center and dropping back).
Either he becomes a HOFer and is compared to Johnny Unitas for his work in bringing the spread to the NFL (Unitas – forward pass), or he develops into a Steve Young-like QB (lefty, mobile, strong + accurate arm) – hopefully without the trade from a horrible team (which in this case would be Da Bears) to start a career on the right path.
And yes, it might be a pipe-dream, but I’m a homer for the Gators and Bears. Hence my support for Rex – and Leak, for the two preseason weeks he was there.

I don't think the spread would work in the pros
I think it could on some plays, but defenders are on average a lot faster and a lot smarter in the pros than in college. I think you can look at how quickly and effectively the league managed to adjust to Michael Vick, once he had to play for a couple of years in a row, and see that the NFL will probably always be what it is now: A league where short, accurate throws, a solid running game and the once-in-a-while vertical pass are the elements of a winning offense. That doesn’t mean I like it.
Team Speed Kills. All SEC, all the time.
Tebow isn't Vick though.
He can make the short, accurate throws, he can run (obviously), and he has the arm to drop it over a receiver’s shoulder from 50 yards away. I’m not suggesting a full-up spread, but something along the lines of the Wildcat with more passing.
