Because the last time they hired a former Auburn DC, it worked so well ...
Paul Rhoads has been hired to be head coach at Iowa State. Imagine the outcry on the Plains if he does a better job than Chizik.

It's still Iowa State.
They don’t have much of a chance regardless of coach.

Well, it is the Big 12 North – ever since Nebraska lost its mojo, that division has been there for the taking (and has been had by pretty ordinary Colorado and Missouri teams – with a couple of exceptions.) If Kansas, once regularly awful, can become a respectable program in that division, so can ISU.

They still have to play the South every few games.

So do the other teams in the North. It’s true that ISU was winless with the conference’s easiest schedule this past season, but schedule strength evens out in the long term. And really now, if certain SEC schools can go bowling with 2-6 conference records, there’s no reason a half-way competent coach can’t get ISU into the post-season every other year or so (as McCarney did.) Schedule – and beat – non-con weenies, pick off a couple of your fellow weak sisters in conference, and bam – you’re enjoying the holidays in scenic Houston or Shreveport… or hey, maybe even Tempe!

Dan McCarney seemed to do OK
ISU even canceled their baseball program to free up enough money to sign him to a big contract, didn’t they?
Of course coaching fortunes rise and fall rapidly, but I wonder if anyone there thinks they pulled the plug too quickly on McCarney.

How is there not the same outcry for Turner Gill not getting this job?
Oh wait, cause it’s not a school from the south with an idiot alumni. Get some proof and then we’ll talk, SIR Charles.

Gill was locked up by the time Iowa State was ready to hire
But you do have a point — there will be something of a doubled standard whenever a Southern school is involved.
Team Speed Kills. All SEC, all the time.

I used Turner Gill to represent any black option that they had...
Charlie Strong, etc. Although I’d prefer that Strong stay at UF as head coahc after Meyer goes to be a pope.

Turner Gill was offered
and turned it down. He played and coached at Nebraska, so he knows what a graveyard ISU is.
